Potential diagnostic dilemmas using the multifocal electroretinogram in intermittent exotropia.

چکیده
Multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) is a valuable technique in assessing macular function in retinal disease objectively as it provides spatial information. Altered responses give an estimate of the extent of central retinal dysfunction. Fixation is known to be an important technical factor in mfERG recording. We present findings in a patient with asymptomatic intermittent exotropia that reinforce the importance of adequate consideration of potential fixation errors.

متن کاملIntermittent Exotropia: Management Options and Surgical Outcomes
Background: This paper reflects an effort to recreate a modern analysis of a 1985 study on surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia. Post-surgical results are reported as functional, motor, cosmetic, and unsuccessful. Modern optometric approaches to management of intermittent exotropia are also discussed. Methods: A literature review of 17 acceptable papers (dating from 1990-2011) on the out...
متن کاملManagement of Intermittent Exotropia of the Divergence Excess Type: a Teaching Case Report
Intermittent exotropia (IXT) is the most common form of childhood exotropia 2 with an incidence of 32.1 per 100,000 in children under 19 years of age. The strabismus is characterized by an exodeviation of one eye that is interspersed with periods of ocular alignment. Reliable measurement of the deviation is often hindered by the variable nature of the strabismus, and without careful observation...
متن کاملElectrophysiological examination in uveitis: a review of the literature
PURPOSE Uveitis is the inflammation of the uveal tract, which usually also affects the retina and vitreous humor. The electrophysiological examination is an objective ocular examination that includes the electroretinogram, visual evoked potentials, the electrooculogram, the multifocal electroretinogram, and multifocal visual evoked potentials. Our aim is to review the literature of the use of t...
